Toronto Diamonds, The
Sports Fan's Proposal
If you're one of the men who was lucky enough to find a
woman who's as into sports as you are, then when it comes to giving her the diamond to make it official, you might
think of doing it on the diamond.
If she's the type of girl that would much rather be at a
leafs game than feeling awkward and out of place at some fine-dining place,
then remember that your proposal will
be that much more special if you're doing something she loves.
If you are both on a softball team, then perhaps pop the
question right after she's slid into home.
Or if it's just fitness she's into, then climb the steps at the CN Tower
in Toronto, offer your diamond and pop the question. Go for a walk, hike, or bike ride through the
many parks in Toronto and stop at particularly beautiful location to bend the
knee and show her the diamond.
If she loves the environment take her to Rouge Park in East Toronto, which protects the Rouge
watershed, and is a vast expanse of rare plants, trees, wild animals and
historical locations. The great thing
about proposing in a park or other
venue, as opposed to a fancy restaurant is that it is much easier and less
costly to visit over and over as a special location where your gave her the diamond ring, meaningful for you both.
Or if she can't get enough of hockey, then take her to the
Hockey Hall of Fame to see over 100 years of hockey history. There are lots of
interactive games and rest stops as well as all of the memorabilia, trophies
and awards, including the Stanley Cup.
In the winter take her to one of the many skating rinks in
town, Grenadier Pond in Toronto’s High
Park, Harbourfront, and Nathan Phillips Square are common places to spend a romantic evening on the ice. Then warm up over a cup of hot-chocolate and
see the sparkle in her eye when you bring out that diamond ring.
There is always the tried and true option of taking her to a
game, and having the question appear on the big screen. For some this might be too much and too
impersonal. But if she does like a lot
of attention, then perhaps try contacting the team's public relations
department and try to make arrangements to make a proposal on the ice/field/court during one of the game breaks.
Some teams might even be willing to help you by staging a
scenario where your (or her) seat is chosen to win a prize or contest and when
you go down to “claim the prize” you can propose on the ice/field/court. Again, just make sure your girl is
comfortable with that much attention and loves you lots, because there is
nothing worse than proposing in front of hundreds of people if she's
uncomfortable or says no.
Now here is the thing to remember when considering any of
the above options for your proposal. Ask
yourself honestly, “will it be what she wants, or is this what I want?” If you're pretty sure that what she'll want
is a nice dinner out in Toronto,
then perhaps include that into the night along with the diamond ring, after
you've done any of the options listed here.
Just make sure it's going to be a day that is special for her, that she
will remember for the rest of her life.
So if she is game, then perhaps the right time might be
after she scores the winning goal, makes that touchdown, or pitches a
no-hitter. Just make sure that if you
are going to give her the diamond on a Toronto
diamond - it'll be a home-run, not a foul ball.
